Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I wanted to take a minute to share a bit of insightful news - an email from my brother who is serving in the Middle East. He sent it to me a few weeks ago, and I knew then that I wanted to share it on my blog. Once you read it you will know why I saved it for today...
Hey Peeps!
Thanks for writing me! I love hearing about stuff from home, because sometimes I get so caught up in this stuff I forget I'm not alone. My day wasn't as exciting as yours, except maybe when I got some free coffee (you know the Starbucks ones in the can... I guess I really lowered my coffee standards out here).
I have been talking to lots of different people from Egypt, India, Bangladesh the list goes on, and the main point I keep hearing is about how all of them want to go to the states. It's funny to think that considering I lived there my whole life and I never saw it as a "privilege" or a blessing to live there, but looking at how some of these people live and the money they make I am one rich dude compared to them. It is very hard for these people to go to the states even the rich ones, as a matter of fact they have to win a lottery to get a visa. Americans can go wherever they want (for the most part) but others can't even visit the states. They talk about the U.S. as if it were a dreamland and the more I talk about it the more they want to go. I can honestly say that I will never be able to put what I feel for these people into words, It's a feeling I'm not sure I can get over. All they want is a better life and most of them no matter how smart they are (they are very smart) will never make it there.
Well sorry for that depressing bit but I needed for someone to get a feeling for how blessed the U.S. is. One of the guys I was working with that thinks I'm freekin' awesome tried to arrange for me to marry his niece. I thought he was joking so I played along but I kid you not he was very serious. She was a very pretty girl (gorgeous actually) but I didn't really feel like converting to Islam on that particular Sunday so it didn't work out.
Love Ya
Reed.
To my very spoiled American friends and family: I love you, have a very blessed holiday, remember how much we have, and please keep our loved ones serving far away in your prayers!
